Letters that I have submitted to the Delaware County Daily Times
Published in the Daily Times on 07/24/09.

The Upper Darby Township Council has stated that crime is a community problem and that the police need our help.  Crime is both a community problem and a township government problem.  The community and the township must partner together to improve our quality of life.

If we fail to partner to improve our quality of life, we will force residents to move out of Upper Darby.  If residents move out, our taxes will increase to compensate for our shrinking tax base.

If you have information about a crime, please help our community and take action by calling or emailing the Upper Darby Police.

Welcome to Upper Darby Township.  It’s the largest township in Delaware County and it has a mix of cultures from all around the world.  This township has a great school district with many top ranked programs.  We have a movie theater and a famous performing arts venue.  We have shopping and restaurants.  We have a great public transportation center.  Our township is an amazing place; we should be the jewel of Delaware County.

But there are some things we are missing… here’s what we don’t have:

  1. No art festival (Lansdowne has one)
  2. No music festival (Media has one)
  3. No farmer’s market (Lansdowne and Swarthmore have one)
  4. No community movie night (Lansdowne and Media have one)
  5. No races or marathons (Haverford has one)
  6. No services to honor Patriots Day on 9/11  (Collingdale has “Emergency Services Day”)
  7. No township line item budget posted to our website (Haverford, Lansdowne and Media post theirs)
  8. No township council minutes posted to our website (Haverford, Lansdowne, Media, Springfield and Swarthmore post theirs)
  9. No contractor documents posted to our website (Haverford and Swarthmore post theirs)
  10. No list of parks posted to our website (Haverford, Lansdowne, Springfield and Swarthmore post theirs)

Council has been run by one party for over 20 years.  That’s a long time for one group to lead our township.  Now is the time to welcome some new people to council that have new ideas and a fresh perspective.  New people that will lead our township out of the past and into the future helping Upper Darby become that jewel of Delaware County.

I encourage everyone to vote on Nov 3rd 2009 and help Upper Darby get its pride back.
