As a member of township council, I would lead the efforts to reduce our property taxes.

I want to expand our residential and business tax base to improve the cash flow into the township.  If we get a wider and more stable tax base we can start to balance the tax burden across the township fairly. 

The way we can lower taxes is by getting new home owners to move in and new businesses to open in our township.  We must also have a strategy to keep our new homeowners and business owners in Upper Darby.

Here are some ways that I would help expand our tax base

and lower our property taxes:

I would create a quarterly Realtor’s Forum. This would give the township direct access to the people that interact with our future homeowners the most.  We would be able to market our township to compete against the surrounding communities.

Improve the township website to include a “Prospective Homeowners” section.  This would explain all of the benefits and resources that our township has to offer. It would list all of the parks, schools, SEPTA stations, etc…

I would create a quarterly Business Forum.  This would give the township direct access to the business owners.  We would learn from our store owners about how to improve our services to attract new business.

I would create an annual Customer Satisfaction Survey.  Residents and business owners could complete this web-based form to rate their satisfaction with township services.  Upper Darby could then take this data and use it to improve our services.

Upper Darby needs to post its budget (actual and forecast) in a line item format.  This will increase the government’s transparency.  Taxpayers would have the opportunity to see what our money is going towards.

I would create an Efficiency Committee that is charged with the responsibility of determining the most cost efficient way of delivering services.
